Capodistria

Koper, locally known as Capodistria, is a charming port city located on the southwestern coast of Slovenia, in the Littoral–Inner Carniola region. This city, which serves as Slovenia’s main gateway to the Adriatic Sea, offers an intriguing mix of medieval architecture and Venetian influences, a reflection of its historical past as part of the Republic of Venice.

One of the focal points of your visit should be Tito Square, the vibrant heart of the historic center. Here you can admire the beautiful Praetorian Palace, an example of Gothic-Venetian architecture that now houses the Town Hall. Next to it, Koper Cathedral, dedicated to the Assumption, offers the opportunity to climb the bell tower for breathtaking views of the city and the Adriatic coast.

If you are a lover of history and culture, do not miss the Koper Regional Museum, which provides insights into the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region. Furthermore, a walk along the waterfront will reward you with picturesque scenery, featuring colorful fishing boats and charming cafés where you can enjoy an authentic Slovenian coffee.

Koper is also an ideal base for exploring the Karst region, famous for its unique natural landscapes, vineyards, and spectacular caves such as those in Postojna. Language barriers are not a problem here, as most residents speak both Slovenian and Italian, making interaction easy and enjoyable for Italian visitors.
