History

The beneficial properties of the thermal waters of Santa Cesarea have been known since antiquity, but the development of the urban center occurred in the late 1800s, thanks to the construction of a road that improved accessibility. The exploitation of sulfurous waters and thermal mud dates back to the 2nd century BC and today forms the foundation of the local economy.

In the 19th century, the area's isolation limited the development of the spa town. Only with the construction of an accessible road in the late 1800s did the development of Santa Cesarea Terme as a spa center begin.

Therapeutic Information about the Waters

The thermal waters of Santa Cesarea Terme are chlorinated, sulfurous, and iodic, with temperatures ranging between 30°C and 36-37°C, ideal for therapeutic treatments. These waters flow from four natural caves: Gattulla, Solfatara, Solfurea, and Fetida, all connected to the sea. The water from the Fetida Cave, for example, has a temperature of 30°C and is used for the sulfur pool.

The thermal waters are indicated for the treatment of arthritic, dermatological, and respiratory diseases, trauma recovery, as well as for aesthetic and anti-stress treatments. Thermal mud, combined with the waters, is used in various therapeutic treatments offered by the center.

Treatments and Therapies

The thermal center offers a wide range of therapeutic treatments, including thermal baths, mud therapies, inhalations, tympanic insufflations, nasal irrigations, rehabilitation, massage therapy, pressotherapy, magnetotherapy, and physiokinesitherapy. In addition, aesthetic treatments such as wellness massages, shiatsu, Ayurvedic, Californian massages, foot reflexology, peeling, scrubs, and anti-cellulite treatments are available.
