The Villamaina Thermal Baths, also known as the Ancient Baths of San Teodoro, are located in the municipality of Villamaina, in the province of Avellino, at an altitude of 480 meters above sea level and 3 km from the town center. The facility is set in a green valley with a favorable climate for almost the entire year, providing an ideal environment for those seeking rest and therapies in contact with nature, without sacrificing comfort.

The thermal waters of the Villamaina Baths are primarily bicarbonate-calcium, sulfate, and alkaline-earth, rich in carbon dioxide, and flow from the San Teodoro spring at a temperature of 28°C. These waters have tonic-sedative, detoxifying, anti-allergic effects, stimulate the endocrine system, and have benefits on metabolism and chronic joint diseases.

The facility offers a wide range of services, including outdoor thermal pools arranged on two levels, a wellness center with a sauna, steam bath, and hot tub, and an equipped aesthetics department. Additionally, it features 40 stations for inhalation treatments, 32 cabins for mud-balneotherapy treatments, and 10 cabins for physiotherapy treatments.

Thermal activity in Villamaina dates back to the second half of the 17th century, as documented in records from the time. The area has been known since antiquity for the presence of the Valley of Ansanto, the epicenter of the Lake of Mefite, rich in fumaroles and hot mud, connected to the volcanic and hydro-geological phenomena of the baths. The valley is mentioned by Virgil in the Aeneid and described by authors like Pliny, Siconio Apollinare, and Aulus Persius.

According to a legend, the valley of Ansanto was where Proserpina was abducted by Pluto, the god of the underworld, who dragged her into the bowels of the earth through one of the chasms in the valley. This mythological episode has contributed to making the area even more enchanting and mysterious.

The thermal waters of the Villamaina Baths are classified as bicarbonate-calcium, sulfate, and alkaline-earth, rich in carbon dioxide, with a temperature of 28°C at the source. These waters have keratoplastic and keratolytic actions on the skin, are anti-catarrhal, anti-inflammatory, and stimulate the mucous membranes of the respiratory system, as well as stimulating peristalsis in the digestive system.

The main available treatments include Turkish bath (Hammam), sauna, hot tub, thermal pool, mud treatments, aesthetic treatments, vascular path (Kneipp), balneotherapy, endo-tympanic insufflations, and inhalations.

In collaboration with the national public health authority (ASL), treatments such as mud and bath therapies, thermal baths for dermatological diseases, hot tub baths for vascular diseases, thermal aerosols, inhalations, endo-tympanic insufflations, pulmonary ventilations, and hydro-therapeutic treatments are available. These treatments cater to a variety of conditions, including articular rheumatic diseases, dermatological diseases, respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal complaints, and genitourinary issues.
