General Information

The Thermae of Rome is a thermal center located just a few kilometers from Rome, known for its outdoor pools with sulfur water kept at a constant temperature of 23.8°C. These pools provide a relaxing and therapeutic experience due to the beneficial properties of the Acque Albule, rich in sulfur, which act as a natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.

The center offers a wide range of services, including thermal treatments covered by the National Health Service, physiotherapy, specialized medicine, and aesthetic treatments. Additionally, it features a thermal spa with wellness pathways, sauna, steam room, and an indoor pool with water jets for muscle massages.

History

The origins of the Thermae of Rome date back to the time of Emperor Augustus, with the Acque Albule mentioned by Latin writers such as Pliny the Elder and Virgil in the Aeneid. These sulfuric waters have been used since ancient times for their therapeutic properties.

In the 19th century, chemical analyses confirmed the curative properties of the Acque Albule. In 2001, a redevelopment project brought the Thermae of Rome to the forefront in Europe, integrating high-quality tourism services with traditional thermal treatments.

Therapeutic Information on Waters

The Acque Albule are sulfureous and hypotermal, with a constant temperature of 23.8°C. The presence of sulfur gives them antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, making them effective in treating respiratory, rheumatic, urinary, and dermatological conditions.

The water springs from lakes Regina and Colonnelle, north of the Tiburtina road, and is used in the center's outdoor pools. The extraction method ensures a continuous exchange of waters, maintaining their chemical and therapeutic characteristics unaltered.

Treatments and Therapies

The center offers a wide range of wellness treatments, including relaxing massages, aesthetic treatments for the face and body, and wellness pathways in the thermal spa. Among the available massages are: Californian massage, Swedish massage, aromatherapy massage, and Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Nui massage.

For chronic conditions, thermal treatments integrate with pharmacological treatment, reducing the risk of intoxication and improving the effectiveness of medications. The Thermae of Rome also offers physiotherapy services, specialized medicine, and treatments for psoriasis, with agreements with ASL and INPS.
